Given the well attended event which was held in the auditorium of the FLMM which also presented the documentary Café, directed by Dr. Libia González.

During the conference Mr. Pedro Bengochea spoke about the importance of maintaining balance in the coffee as it was in their historical origins. .

Lisette Fas, Executive Director of Cafiesencia presents the valorization of the coffee field and its natural and historic surroundings as the spearhead for the sustainable development of the mountains and makes a call to re-train mind and body.

During the Spanish Rule, Puerto Rico’s location was strategic both for commercial and military purposes. But during the 18th century smuggling of Puerto Rican coffee also flourished in the hands of pirates and corsairs to the point where the Spanish Crown declared it tax free.
